Black Friday Week Deals at Amazon.com
It's Thanksgiving week in the U.S. and the day after Thanksgiving, this Friday, is referred to by the retail industry as "Black Friday". The origin of the name is debated, but some say it is the day that retailers finally turn a profit for the year; you know how accountants refer to the company's profit being "in the black", as opposed to "in the red". Anyhow, it is the day that seems to have come to represent the kick-off of the holiday shopping season in the U.S. with most retailers now offering "Black Friday" special deals, and was marked in 2008 by a Wal-Mart employee being trampled to death as the crowd surged into the store when the doors were opened. It's what you called "civilized shopping". Not!
As for me, I'm totally "mall-phobic" anyway and do as much of my shopping online as possible. In recent years retail stock analysts started to refer to the Monday after Thanksgiving as "Cyber Monday" as it seems to have developed the pattern of being one of the biggest online shopping days. Most of it conducted from the comfort of employees' desks at the office!
This year, amazon.com is joining in on "Black Friday" with an entire week of online specials starting today. They are calling it "Black Friday Week". Of course they offer plenty of camera and photography equipment, so keep and eye on Amazon's Black Friday Week page starting today as they will rotate specials of the day in all their categories. Perhaps you can find a great deal on that new lens or camera you have been debating getting for yourself or someone else. Viva online shopping!
