King Palm Digital Abstract

Abstract digital art - King PalmAny of you who have king palms in your gardens will know that when the spent branches fall, the inside of the lower part of the branch that wraps around the trunk is a beautiful rich gold/bronze color, and is a work of art in itself. I have known of artists who use them as canvases to paint on or as part of mixed-media compositions.

Here are three works from a photo of the inside of one such branch that was shed from one of the king palms in my garden, viewable as part of the digital art portfolio.

Abstract Photo Featuring Maori Wood Carvings

Abstract photo featuring Maori wood carvings

I combined and blended a couple of photos I took of Maori wood carvings to create this abstract photo. If you have Photoshop you can achieve effects similar to this by laying your images and experimenting with different blending modes. It's lots of fun, and keeps you up late at night!

Sky Tower with Maori Ancestors

Sky Tower Casino and Maori ancestor

As I mentioned in a previous post, the Sky Tower Casino has dominated the Auckland skyline since 1997. Before that it was the Harbour Bridge, Westhaven yacht marina, One Tree Hill, and Rangitoto Island that were the varied icons of the Auckland I recall. The interior decor of the casino features Maori motifs and these lastest works I have put together express the question: "What do the ancestors think"?

Waterlily Series

Water Lily Series by John Corney
I was able to take some photos of waterlilies at both the Mission at San Juan Capistrano and the Getty Museum on my recent visits. No one with a camera in hand can resist the allure and beauty of a water lily which seem to come in such an array of amazing colors from pale creams and yellows to intense pinks and purples, some almost black

So this series of photos will probably keep me going for a while. I just had some fun with one photo tonight and used different blending modes to create 6 slightly different outcomes. Hopefully one or two of them will appeal.
