I watched the 4th of July fireworks in Huntington Beach with some friends this year. Earlier in the day I gave some thought as to how I could represent fireworks without having to take my camera along with me in the evening. I came up with the idea of using this Osteospermum which is flowering on my patio right now. Don't you agree that this flower is the closest thing to an exploding firework that Mother Nature could provide? What a miracle of nature it is! So in celebration of the 4th July, I made this version of the photo a little more red and blue than the real flower which you can see following it in the set. I really like how the background also took on the look of the red of exploding fireworks reflecting off the smoke as you see happen at a fireworks show.
I hope everyone in the U.S. had a fun-filled Independence Day 2009!
