Bird of Paradise Flower

Bird of Paradise flower on black background with Orton effect. Someone told me this is "very 1980s - very colorful". I guess that means I need to do a contemporary version that isn't so colorful...? By the way, just in case you thought I took this photo with the flower on a black background with fancy lighting, that was not the case.  It took me about 90 minutes to isolate the flower from its background. Yes, I'm nuts, obsessive, whatever you want to label me. Go ahead!

Anza-Borrego Wildflowers

Anza Borrego Desert State Park California Wildflowers This cluster of wildflowers is typical of the flowers in Plum Canyon in Anza-Borrego Desert this spring. Because of the dry and harsh environment, most of the flowers are tiny like the three in this photo. But what they lack in size, they make up for in color. It's pretty difficult to try and identify all these flowers, but I'm pretty sure the white one is Desert Pincushion. Help out if you can. I've been using the CalFlora.org website to try and identify the flowers in this series.

Polynesian Guy with Turtle Tattoo #2

This is an updated version of this photo of a Polynesian guy with a turtle tattoo on his shoulder . On his arms is a traditional shark-tooth pattern tattoo. The earlier version of this photo has proven to be the most popular photo on my website for some reason; I guess people must just love looking at guys with tattoos or are looking for ideas or traditional Polynesian tattoos to copy. Avocet Attacks Mallard Ducklings

Most of us have probably experienced some kind of aggressive bird behavior such as being bombed by a parent bird with a nest full of chicks. I guess it's good to know that birds don't just pick on us humans. In a recent visit to the San Joaquin Marsh in Irvine, CA, I captured this American Avocet dealing to some Mallard ducklings. I put the drama together in this video for your "enjoyment". Best viewed in "full screen" mode.
