The Kew Royal Botanic Gardens run an ongoing photography contest known as the "International Garden Photographer of the Year" which has 4 seasonal contests each year, plus one annual garden photography contest per year. 2011 marks the 5th year of the contest.
The first of the "4 seasons" contests for 2011 is for monochrome and toned photographs. There's a good post at their blog on how you might turn some of your own color photos into black and white or toned photos at http://www.kew.org/news/kew-blogs/monochrome.htm.
For more information on the "International Garden Photographer of the Year" contests, visit the IGPOTY site at http://www.igpoty.com.
