Anza-Borrego Desert Pink Wildflower

California Wildflower
Well, I spent a lot of time searching through the Calflora database in an effort to identify this pink flower from Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, and finally tracked it down.

Blue Dicks (Dichelostemma capitatum)

Dichelostemma capitatum, a monocot, is a perennial herb that is native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America.

It actually reminds me of a crocus flower. If you know what this flower is, please identify it with a comment below. Thanks!

Hi--
Just stumbled onto your blog from a Flickr reference. I used to live in the Sonoran desert and this image immediately reminded me of a flower that grows there. It is commonly called Blue Dicks (Dichelostemma capitatum). Looks to me like this is at least a close relative.

Hi, Clare.

Thanks for your post. Yes, this is indeed a Blue Dick. At the time I did this post way back then I was just starting to learn my desert flowers. Blue dicks are one of the more common wildflowers in the lower deserts of California, and obviously from what you say, of the Sonoran desert too.
