Although the era when traveling by train was the main mode of transportation has passed, the Los Angeles Union Station is still a grand old place that seems to get some TLC. Opened in May 1939, the station is a great example of art deco architecture. Despite what people think of L.A. and that everyone gets around in a car, when I was there on Saturday afternoon there was a constant crowd of people coming and going to and from trains.
