Vintage Romance: A Timeless Way to Say "You Are My Forever"

In a world of digital messages and instant texts, there is something incredibly grounding about the vintage aesthetic. For this design, I wanted to turn back the clock and create something that feels like a keepsake you might find tucked away in an old love letter box from the Victorian era.

This greeting card features a classic botanical border of deep red roses and blue violets—symbols of love and faithfulness—set against a soft, antique cream background. But the real charm lies in the details.

I chose a variation of the classic poem that speaks to enduring commitment: "Roses are red, Violets are blue, You are my FOREVER, My one and my true."

To complete the look, I added a delightful illustration of a cherubic Cupid with his bow and arrow right at the bottom. It adds just the right amount of whimsy and nostalgia.

If you want to move away from the bright, neon aesthetic of modern Valentine’s Day aisles and give something with a bit more soul and history, this design is for you. It’s perfect for long-term partners, anniversaries, or anyone who appreciates the romance of the past.

Before and After: Two Joshua Tree Photographs, Two Painterly Reworkings

I want to try something a little different in this post — a working walk-through of how two of my Joshua Tree photographs from April of 2011 became two of my newest painterly artworks on Redbubble. Same compositions, same landscape, same afternoon in the Mojave. Very different final pieces. The Raw Photographs Both photographs were taken on a single afternoon trip to Joshua Tree National Park, shot in Canon raw (.CR2) format on my Canon EOS. Raw files are, as any photographer knows, deliberately flat — they carry the maximum amount of information the sensor recorded, without any of the punchy contrast, saturation, or sharpening that a JPEG would apply automatically in-camera. That flatness is a feature: it gives the photographer the widest possible latitude to make choices in post-processing. But it also means a raw file, straight out of the camera, doesn't look like the scene the eye remembers. It looks like the scene the sensor saw, drained of atmosphere. Here are the two r...
