In Mexico on Christmas Eve it is common to celebrate Las Posadas which is a reenactment of the vain attempt by Mary and Joseph to find a room at an inn. Ultimately they took shelter in a stable, and it was there that Jesus was born. In the celebration of Las Posadas, which means The Inns in Spanish, the crowd follows a couple representing Mary and Joseph from door to door where they are turned away. Ultimately they find shelter in the stable and a child born in the community that year is brought out and laid in the manger to complete the nativity scene.
