This was a reference between the "haves" and "have-nots" in access to the internet. However, for me the real digital divide comes from personal electronics, starting with the Sony Walkman way back in the 1970s, and really exploding with the introduction of the iPod in October 2001. To me all this electronic gadgetry and wizardry is the real digital divide, separating us from each other. Just take a look around you on any train, bus, or treadmill at the gym. How's that for being creative, I ask you! The young African American man in this photo was working at the SFMOMA when I visited once. I just found him such an interesting subject to snap a photo of. index.html We_Stopped_at_Perfection The "chief" in this photo was a participant in the local pow-wow heald at the U.C. Irvine campus each spring. I imposed him on another photo I took of the sunset at the Grand Canyon. index.html chief_of_the_canyon_3 The title of this piece is a reference to Joseph Campbell's writings on world mythologies. He tells how the American Indians danced dressed in animal costumes in honor of the animal spirits who not only provided food, but lead one on your spiritual journey. The background comes from a photo of Native American rock drawings in Arches National Park in Utah.
